董事長的英文

這兩天頻果的Steve Jobs 辭去執行長（CEO, chief executive officer）職務
但仍續任頻果董事長（chairman of the board),
CEO 將由原來的營運長（COO, chief operating officer）Tim Cook 接任.

board 此處指 董事會 ： board of directors,
director 指 "董事" , 直譯就是 指揮別人辦事者.
一群想指揮別人辦事的人 湊在一起開會 就變成董事會,
董事會裡坐大位的（chairman, chairperson） 就是 董事會主席 也就是董事長.

那 總裁（president） 跟 董事長 有何不同呢？

*董事 是 director, 那監事呢？ --> supervisor, 監事湊在一起 board of supervisors

最近發現unboxing 則是想買一些小東西
到網路上搜尋別人的經驗 有所謂的開箱文

昨天NPR 反覆出現 tax 這個字
原來04.15 是美國人個人所得稅報稅
(individual income tax returns )的截止日.

 

如果遇到週末或其他國定假日(Emancipation day?) 則順延

 

報稅英文叫做 "tax returns", 通常作名詞使用
The incomoe tax returns were due on 2011.04.18.

 

報稅的截止日則叫做"Tax Day"

另外有兩個關於 tax 常見的辭彙
1. payroll tax : 薪資稅 (payroll 指的是 薪資明細表 或 給薪人員名單 )

Hifree 看電影學英文

上週末在Hifree 看了部黑色幽默電影
-- "脫線名模生死鬥 ", Death to the Supermodels
可能有點兒童不宜 ...







... 學到幾個關鍵字 ,

perky : 快活的? lively and light-hearted
但在這部電影裡 卻有貶抑之意

wood : the erected penis
在一般的字典裡 比較難發現這個意思
但在看電影的過程中 很容易猜到
此時wood 不是指木材 而是另有所指 ...
