Ponzi scheme is named after Charles Ponzi.
It is re-notorious due to Madoff's scam.

We can also call it "Madoff scheme" after Bernard Madoff, the former chairman of the NASDAQ stock exchange, perpetrating what may be the largest investor fraud ever committed.
